26th January, 2009 - Highfields Pioneer Village Australia Day Celebrations. 73 Wirraglen Road, Highfields, QLD, 4352. There will be plenty to interest visitors to the Village on Australia Day, January 26th. Volunteers are arranging a program, which includes blacksmithing, tinsmithing and silversmithing, a working draught horse, sheep shearing and spinning and weaving. The demonstrations start at 9.30am with a cow being milked in the Russell & Sons Dairy Pavilion. Youngsters will love the animal nursery!! The Village View Gallery will feature an exhibition of aboriginal paintings during the day. There will also be a sausage sizzle at lunchtime. You're invited to join in the fun and enter the damper making competition at 12 noon with judging at 1.30pm. The Australia Day Flag-Raising will take place at 2.00pm and the Toowoomba Regional Council will present the Australia Day Awards to recipients from the southern end of the shire. After the official ceremony, Toowoomba Regional Council will sponsor free billy tea and damper for everyone in attendance. 21st and 22nd March, 2009 - 2nd Yesteryear Rally. The Bundaberg Branch of the Antique Machinery Restoration Society of Queensland Inc. will be holding the second Yesteryear Rally at the Tegege Hall and Sports Grounds, 24km north of Bundaberg on Rosedale Road on the 21st and 22nd March, 2009. Events include tractor pull, woodworking with antique equipment, stationary engines, horse drawn and old tractor ploughing demonstrations, vintage cars, motor bikes and trucks, swap meet and stalls etc. A country style dinner and auction will be held on Saturday night (bookings essential). Bar and canteen on site. Free unpowered camping for exhibitors. 11th, 12th and 13th March, 2009 - Highfields Pioneer Village 12th Annual Easter Vintage Festival. This year the theme of the festival is "Reliving Days Of Old". The festival will feature displays and demonstrations from all aspects of pioneering life - including arts, crafts, music, animal nursery, vintage machinery and age old crafts such as silversmithing, tinsmithing and blacksmithing. The kids will love to see the old steam engines and stationary engines working and in particular the animal nursery - featuring lots of baby animals. 17th (Setup), 18th and 19th July, 2009 - 10th Anniversary Old Wheels In Motion Weekend. Hosted by the Callide Dawson Machinery Preservation Club Inc., the 10th Anniversary Old Wheels In Motion Weekend will be held at the Queensland Heritage Park Complex, Exhibition Avenue, Biloela. Come along and join in the 10th Anniversary Celebrations being held in conjunction with the Q150 Celebrations and the Grand Opening of the Main Display area of the Queensland Heritage Park Complex. There will be something for everyone, including traditional favourites and new and exciting additions.
